The Pilates (pi-LAH-teez) Method, developed in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates, is a method applied to movement, not just a set of exercises. It is designed to strengthen and stretch muscles and properly align the body for functional movement. The foundation of the Pilates Method is based on its principles: Breath, Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision and Flowing Movement

Pilates preached the importance of mental and physical harmony in the body. He professed that by strengthening the “core” of the body as an anchor for stability, the body would experience greater ease of mobility.

Originally used primarily by dancers for deep conditioning and injury rehabilitation, Pilates-based exercises strengthen the abdominals and back (the “core”), develop long, lean muscles, improve flexibility, increase joint mobility, build strength, increase coordination, improve balance and strengthen posture. The body will learn to do that which is most efficient— the least effort with the greatest result.

Pilates Bodies Studio offers both private and semi-private sessions on the highly specialized equipment originally designed by Joseph Pilates.
